Couch

Couch is one of Boston’s newest and hottest fusion-pop bands, establishing an unique sound by blending soul, pop, R&B, and jazz. The 7 piece band started the project remotely, then quickly stepped up to the national platform after releasing their debut EP in 2021, followed by Sunshower (2023), The Sweater Sessions (2024), and their full‑length debut Big Talk in 2025.

Their rise included major festival appearances at Boston Calling and Levitate, a sold‑out U.K. debut run, and tours with Lake Street Dive, Cory Wong, and St. Paul & The Broken Bones. In 2025, Couch earned five nominations at the Boston Music Awards, including Artist of the Year.

  • For Couch’s debut album Big Talk, Studio 60 was brought int o design and manage a recording process that matched the band’s collaborative way of working rather than forcing them into a traditional, linear studio model.

Studio 60 connected Couch with one of our recording studio partners and led the workflow for production and engineering across the project.

Couch’s Process is fluid and highly collaborative. the band thrives in an enviroment that allows for both full group collaboration and more intimate/separate production spaces. Once a scratch take is established, members break off to develop parts simultaneously, often running multiple sessions at once.

At any given moment, this meant:

    • Drums tracking in a live room

    • Vocals in isolation booth

    • Guitar production setup in personal isolation booth

    • independent Horn tracking booth & production setup

in most traditional recording studio setups, this type of workflow is challenging to meet without booking multiple studio’s at once. it took precise planning and execution to manage this session to ensure all the individual recording setups were properly routed and isolated.

  • Studio 60 was brought on to lead lighting direction/operation for Couch’s Big Talk tour.

Early in the process, Studio 60 connected the band with a soundstage for full production rehearsals and supported the transition from design to touring reality. Working alongside Supervoid.tv’s lighting design, BT Odoy provided additional programming and system refinement to ensure the show translated cleanly across venues and audience sizes.

Couch is as particular about their lighting as they are about their sound. That level of precision required extensive preproduction, long programming sessions, and detailed refinement to ensure every musical moment and visual cue aligned exactly as intended.

Using GrandMA3, Studio 60 built a flexible show architecture based on recipes, allowing the same design language to scale effectively from large rooms like Roadrunner in front of 3,500 people to smaller stages such as Austin ACLLive with audiences closer to 700.

In parallel, Studio 60 designed a custom Ableton playback rig to handle click and timecode, providing a stable backbone for synchronization between music and lighting throughout thetour.

Studio 60 handled nightly operation, consistency, and on-the-ground problem solving, ensuring the show maintained its impact regardless of venue size, production constraints, or tour conditions.

Couch's Big Talk Tour traversed over 40 cities and 11 countries.
